Twelve Months of Dad’s Eye Candy Awaits Veterans Q BBQ Sauce Shoppers & Rubs 2023 “BBQ Boy Toys”. The Chicago-area veteran-owned company released its fifth calendar since 2017 at a party at the Parkside Pub in Huntley.
“Veterans are pretty crazy,” said Steve Lulofs, president of Veterans Q. “We might as well put on our underwear and do boudoir-style calendars and hopefully go viral.”
Several models, fully clothed but wearing sashes indicating their month, signed autographs and took photos with calendar shoppers. Lulofs says the calendar is a fun way to promote the good that Veterans Q does with its profits.
“Our mission statement is ‘to honor and support veterans through a barbecue,'” said Lulofs, an Army veteran who served in Iraq. Veterans Q donates 50% of his profits to veterans organizations, but in his first four years he donated 100%.
“It’s hard to sustain a business when you give it your all, so this year we’re back to 50% of our profit,” Lulofs said.
Veterans Q supports several organizations that give much of their funding to veterans themselves, including Honor Flight Chicago and Operation Warrior Wishes. A non-profit organization, Veterans’ Path to Hope, provides food, counseling, employment assistance, and other services to veterans in the Chicago area.
“We couldn’t do what we do without partnerships,” said Laura Franz, executive director of Veterans Path To Hope. “Veterans Q is part of a continuum of care that helps veterans in need.”
Lulofs says his barbecue sauces, seasonings and “Barbecue Boy Toys” calendar all exist to help support fellow vets and it’s not about making money.
“I’ve had enough already and don’t need much,” Lulofs said. “Why not go ahead and give back?”

Dolphins are among the most intelligent mammals, but even they couldn’t have predicted the loss of a bear last week. Will Ryan’s ‘ultra-accurate prediction’ come true this week against the Lions?
It’s been a long season so far, but as they say, “slow and steady wins the race”. Ryan went to Tin Lizzie’s in Chicago to see if their famous turtle races could be the bear’s lucky charm.
Tune in every Friday for a new prediction and make your own list to see if you can break Ryan’s record this season!
