‘Honk for Jesus. Save your soul and more!

Honk for Jesus. Save your soul. (2022)

Release date: In theaters nationwide and streaming on Peacock Friday, September 2, 2022.

Summary: In Honk for Jesus. save your soul, Trinidad (Regina Hall) and her husband, Pastor Lee-Curtis (Sterling K. Brown), were once the king and queen of a major Southern Baptist mega-church. However, that was before a major scandal, and now they have to rally together and pick up the pieces before it all goes down the drain.

To monitor: The film is based on a 2018 short of the same name by writer/director Adamma Ebo.

word on the street: Regina Hall is an eight-time NAACP Image Award nominee. Her last nomination was for her performance in the comedy of 2019 Black Monday.

my catch: I’ve been a fan of Regina Hall since she was on the Ally McBeal TV series as Corretta Lipp. Hall was a cast member in the show’s final season.

Love at the Villa (2022)

Evaluation: N / A

Release date: Premieres on Netflix on Thursday, September 1, 2022.

Summary: Love at the Villa is about Julie (Kat Graham), a young woman who always has a plan. After a longtime boyfriend breaks up with her, she embarks on the “romantic trip” to Verona, Italy that the two had planned together. Once there, she discovers that the villa she has booked has been double-booked and that she will have to share her vacation with a cynical Brit (Tom Hopper).

To monitor: Kat Graham is best known for her role as Bonnie Bennett on the long-running CW series The Vampire Diaries.

word on the street: The actress who interprets the character of Cassie in the film is the real wife of Tom Hopper.

my catch: I’m always up for a good romantic comedy.

Gigi and Nate (2022)

Evaluation: PG-13

Release date: In select theaters Friday, September 2, 2022.

Summary: Gigi and Nate is about Nate (Charlie Rowe), who was six weeks into his freshman year at college when he suffered a horrific accident, leaving him a quadriplegic. His world seems small and cold in this wheelchair until a unique service animal comes into Nate’s life. A little capuchin monkey named Gigi.

To monitor: The film is based on a true story.

word on the street: The film used a real capuchin named Allie, but sometimes it was necessary to use visual effects. For this, they enlisted the help of visual effects artist Scott Anderson, who worked on the Oscar-winning film. baby.

my catch: The impressive cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Josephine Langford, Jim Belushi and Diane Ladd.

Funeral (2022)

Release date: In select theaters Friday, September 2, 2022.

Summary: Burial is set at the end of World War II, where a small group of Russian soldiers are tasked with bringing the discovered remains of Hitler to Stalin in Moscow. Some secrets must remain buried.

To monitor: This is the second feature film that filmmaker Ben Parker has directed. His first was the 2016 thriller Bedroom.

word on the street: Charlotte Vega plays Brana Vasilyeva, a soldier willing to risk everything to accomplish the mission. Vega is best known for her role as Rachel in the 2017 film The tenants.

my catch: I am sad that the late great Diana Rigg, who starred in the film, passed away before the filming of the film. Harriet Walter replaced her in the film.

Wire Room (2022)

Evaluation:R

Release date: Available digitally and on demand Friday, September 2, 2022.

Summary: In wire room New recruit Justin Rosa (Kevin Dillon) works in the “Wire Room”, where federal agents watch the world’s most dangerous criminals in a remote facility. Rosa watches over a cartel member, Eddie (Oliver Trevena), who she’s been told to keep alive at all costs.

Things go awry when Justin sees that a team of assassins have descended on Eddie’s house, and Justin warns the man of the danger. It’s a decision that could cost them both their lives.

To monitor: This is the last film performance of Bruce Willis, who has announced his retirement after filming the role of commander of ‘The Wire Room.’

word on the street: The film is directed by Matt Eskandari, who directed Willis in recent releases kill hard (2020) and trauma center (2019).

my catch: I would be sad to no longer see one of my favorite action stars, Bruce Willis, on screen.
