Movies and TV Shows Releasing in May – The Hollywood Reporter

The 80’s action classic Superior gunthe 2001 comedy by Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson Zoolander and the first and second parts of I know what you did last summer The horror franchise is among the titles leaving Netflix in May.

As its highly anticipated sequel prepares to hit theaters, Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise as a Navy Fighter Weapons School fighter pilot, will leave the streaming service on May 31. The Oscar-winning 1986 film – which also stars Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards, Tom Skerritt, Tim Robbins and sees a brief early career cameo from Meg Ryan – follows Cruise’s reckless and arrogant Maverick in his efforts to becoming the best pilot and winning McGillis flight instructor Charlotte Blackwood while at odds with her fellow training pilots.

Zoolander, the 2001 comedy directed by and starring Stiller in the lead role, sees model Derek Zoolander and his signature “Blue Steel” look lose Male Model of the Year to rival Wilson’s Hansel. Amid an emotional crisis that forces Derek to rethink his entire career path, fashion designer Jacobim Mugatu (Will Ferrell) signs Derek to appear in his latest fashion show – part of a larger plan to kill the Malaysian prime minister. With the help of journalist Matilda Jeffries (Christine Taylor) and her rival, Zoolander will battle brainwashing and an assassination attempt until May 31, when he will leave the streamer.

Other movies leaving Netflix in May include The Blind Side, The Devil’s Advocate, The Disaster Artist, Battleship, Hairspray, Free Willy and Happy Feet.

TV shows leaving Netflix this month include all three seasons of the beloved comedy happy endings and the six seasons of the period hit Downton Abbey, who will both leave the streamer on May 31. The British historical drama is set in the early 1900s and tells a top-down story of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants in the fictional estate of Yorkshire. The show was honored with both Golden Globes and Emmys, was one of ITV’s and PBS’ most-watched programs, and spawned two sequel movies.

Despite releasing all the content, Netflix has announced a number of new movies and TV shows that will be added over the course of the month.
