While Netflix might take a short-term hit with some of its internal measures, there’s no doubt that the platform continues to release new movies every week. Let’s take a look at the new movies on Netflix this week to see what’s on offer for subscribers worldwide.

MONDAY (July 4)

new movies on netflix

Celebrate the 4th of July in the United States with a film about a veteran suffering from PTSD. This new Netflix movie stars Ben Foster as a traumatized ex-soldier who raises his daughter in the Oregon desert because the “real world” has become too difficult a business for him after his service. The film follows their relationship and Foster’s character’s struggle to assimilate into mainstream society while raising a daughter who yearns to be part of a larger world. Leave no trace has received universal critical acclaim and is currently sitting 100% on Rotten Tomatoes through over 240 reviews. This one is definitely worth a look.

Girl in the picture

Girl in the picture is a documentary by acclaimed filmmaker Skye Borgman who also directed Removed in plain sight. This new documentary film on Netflix tells the story of a woman mysteriously found dead by the side of the road and what happened to her son as well as a man who claimed to be her husband following the tragedy. It involves murders, fugitives, kidnappings, and a mystery behind the family in general. The mystery itself has spanned decades and this documentary delves into every nook and cranny of the sordid history.

Hello, goodbye and everything else

Hello, goodbye and everything else is based on the popular book Jennifer E. Smith. This new movie on Netflix tells the story of a couple, Aidan and Claire, in the timeline that led them to college. They made a pact with each other to break up before going to school, but decide to relive some of the highlights of their relationship before doing so. The film chronicles the last night of their time together and how they come to realize that their relationship is much more than just a high school romance.

Quick and feel the love

You never thought you’d see a movie about competitive cup stacking, did you? Me neither, but here we are Fast and feel love, a Thai romantic comedy that follows a guy who has made cup stacking his way of life. This is about a man who is at the top of this particular game, but who also has to balance his need for speed (stacking) with his love life. While the premise might be silly to some, I think you can come at the ridiculous pace where people can stack cups and stick around for the love life of its reigning champ.

This story has been brought into the social media age in this way and is sure to hit a swathe of the teenage crowd who might be able to relate to the stylized story.

SUNDAY (July 10)

12 Strong

12 Strong was released in 2018 and stars Chris Hemsworth as the leader of a group of Green Berets who were sent to Afghanistan following the 9/11 attacks. The full title of the film is 12 Strong: The Declassified True Story Of Mounted Soldiers which refers to the mode of transportation this group had to take to deal with the rugged terrain of the country.
