New Netflix Movies and Shows (September 2022)

Unlike other networks using September to roll out some of their biggest shows, Netflix uses the month to relax. There’s no house full of dragons, there’s no lords of the rings, there’s not even a handmaiden telling a story. There is however Blond, the titillating and certainly controversial Marilyn Monroe biopic starring Ana de Armas. It’s definitely the biggest new Netflix movie coming out this month.

Other Netflix new releases in September 2022 include Season 5 of Cobra Kaia season of Chef’s table all about pizza, and the crazy look of Rob Zombie munsters film. And good news for your children: Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 are added back to the Netflix library on September 1. The full list of everything coming and going is below.

Devil in Ohio (Sep 2)

Bones Star Emily Deschanel is returning to TV in a role that might actually involve more bones. Based on the novel by Daria Polatin, inspired by a true story, Devil in Ohio follows a psychiatrist (Deschanel) who puts her family in danger when she takes in a mysterious cult escapee (Madeline Arthur). It’s a lifetime movie in the form of a Netflix limited series, which is exactly what fall is for. Sign me up for any show about weird cornfield rituals. –Kelly Connolly [Trailer]

Chef’s Table: Pizza (September 7)

The venerable documentary series featuring notable chefs from around the world is Netflix’s current longest-running original across all genres, having premiered in April 2015. This episode is technically a spin-off focusing on six great pizza makers, from the Italy to Arizona via Japan. He’ll make you book flights just so you can taste a slice. [Trailer]

Cobra Kai Season 5 (September 9)

These days, when Netflix tapes canceled shows, it makes sure they’re big hits first, and that Karate Kid the sequel series is one of the most important. One of Netflix’s most popular shows returns less than a year after its previous season premiered. Season 5 will see the return of Sean Kanan as “Karate’s Bad Boy” Mike Barnes, the nemesis of Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) from The Karate Kid Part III. [Trailer]

The Munsters (September 27)

The trailer for The Munsters Seems fake, like someone made a parody skit based on what extreme horror filmmaker Rob Zombie’s family vision would be for a film remake of the campy ’60s sitcom. This is not an original sighting , just a specific observation. But the movie is real, and it’s coming to Netflix on September 27. [Trailer]

Blond (September 28)

One of the most anticipated movies of the last few years is finally out, and I’m sure it will be the most talked about movie on the internet since Martin Scorsese said Marvel movies weren’t cinema. Blond, which stars Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe, is cinema. It is a fictionalized version of the icon’s tragic life based on a novel by Joyce Carol Oates and written and directed by artistically challenged filmmaker Andrew Dominik (Killing them softly). It has already sparked controversy for its NC-17 rating due to its graphic sexual content and for de Armas using his natural Cuban accent, and the controversy will only grow once people actually see it. The holds around this one will be intense, both positive and negative. I look forward to developing an opinion on this. [Trailer]
