TWO new Marvel projects and 7 more new movies and shows to watch this weekend

Holy moly, there are so many new movies and shows to check out this weekend, better plan your time accordingly!

It’s been a really crazy week for high quality new releases.

To start, here are the films which will all be available on big screens in Ireland from Friday 1 April.


The latest entry in the Spider-Man cinematic universe – following the three Spider-Man films and the two Venom films – sees Dr. Michael Morbius (Jared Leto) transform into “The Living Vampire” as a byproduct to heal a deadly disease. Unfortunately, his best friend (Matt Smith) also takes the cure, resulting in violent consequences.

Based on the best-selling children’s book series, a group of bad animals (voiced by Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Awkwafina, Craig Robinson and more) try to pretend to be good in order to pull off the ultimate heist.

Jim Carrey returns as Doctor Robotnik, with Ben Schwartz also returning as the voice of Sonic, this time joined by Idris Elba, who voices Knuckles, all in search of a powerful Emerald.

And now, let’s get to the things you can watch at home this week, starting with…


A behind-the-scenes look at the rise of the LA Lakers, which became one of the most successful teams of the 1980s, thanks to new owner Jerry Buss (John C. Reilly) and new recruit Magic Johnson (Quincy Isaiah) .

Judd Apatow (The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up) assembles an impressive cast of stars (including Pedro Pascal, Leslie Mann, Karen Gillan, David Duchovny and more) for this comedy about a group of actors trying to make a massive sci-fi blockbuster amid the pandemic.

The film is available on Netflix from Friday, April 1.


The next big MCU show sees a man (Oscar Isaac) who suffers from dissociative identity disorder discover that one of his “personalities” is actually a super-powered agent for an ancient Egyptian god.

Winner of LOADS of awards recently, it’s one of the best new comedies to come out of HBO in a long time, telling the story of two comedians – played by Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder – at two very different points in their careers, who find a way to help each other when they both face potentially career-ending obstacles.

All episodes will be available to watch on Prime Video starting Friday, April 1.


Richard Linklater (Before Sunrise, Boyhood, A Scanner Darkly) directs this tale about the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969 and the impact it had on children who watched the event live at the time.

The film is available on Netflix from Friday, April 1.


Gary Oldman is the title of this tense new spy thriller series about a group of MI5 agents who have been caught up in a complex web of deception surrounding a high-profile kidnapping.

The first episode arrives on Apple TV+ on Friday, April 1.
